Ellipsend vs GoHighLevel for Instagram DM setter teams

GoHighLevel and Ellipsend are built for different jobs. GoHighLevel, now branded HighLevel, is an all-in-one marketing and CRM platform that many agencies and coaches already run for email, SMS, calendars and payments, with Instagram DMs as one channel in a shared inbox. Ellipsend is built around the Instagram and Facebook DM inbox for setter teams, the people who work your DMs to qualify leads and book calls, and it can credit each sale to the post, story or ad that started the conversation. If your sales start in the DMs, you can run both, with Ellipsend for the conversations and GoHighLevel for calls and payments.
If you already pay for GoHighLevel, a second tool for Instagram DMs can look like waste. GoHighLevel has an Instagram inbox. It has pipelines and comment automations. The difference shows up once a setter team runs most of the sales through DMs and the owner wants to know which post made the money.

What does GoHighLevel cost?
As of October 2026, GoHighLevel lists three plans on its pricing page, plus an Enterprise tier with no listed price. Every plan comes with a 14-day free trial.
| Plan | Price (as of October 2026) | Sub-accounts | Users |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $97/mo or $970/yr | 3 | Unlimited |
| Unlimited | $297/mo or $2,970/yr | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Agency Pro | $497/mo or $4,970/yr | Unlimited, with SaaS mode | Unlimited |
The subscription isn't the whole bill. Phone numbers, SMS, email and premium AI are charged by usage on top. HighLevel's pricing guide lists email at $0.675 per 1,000 sends, and premium workflow steps cost $0.01 per run after the first 100 free ones each sub-account gets.
What is GoHighLevel good at?
A lot. If your business runs on email, text and booked calls, GoHighLevel puts most of it in one place.
Email and SMS marketing are built in, with workflows that fire on almost anything. Calendars cover booking pages, paid calendars and appointment reminders, with workflow triggers for booked, rescheduled, canceled and no-show appointments. Payments cover invoicing, text-to-pay, tap-to-pay and subscriptions.
It's generous with seats. Users and contacts are unlimited on every plan, which matters once a team grows past a handful of people.
It's built for agencies. Sub-accounts let one agency run separate setups for many clients, and Agency Pro adds SaaS mode, which lets an agency rebill phone and email usage with a markup.
The Instagram inbox is solid for general team use. Conversations can be assigned, filtered by owner, channel and tag, and saved as views. Team members can leave private comments with @mentions inside a thread. Staff can reply to Instagram DMs from the mobile app. Comment automations can post a public reply, then send a DM with up to three buttons or quick replies.
If Instagram is one channel among many, and most of your selling happens over email, SMS and calls, GoHighLevel covers it well.
Where does GoHighLevel fall short for DM setter teams?
The gaps show up when the DM conversation is the sale.
No documented revenue attribution for organic posts or stories
GoHighLevel records where a contact came from at specific moments. A form or survey submission, a calendar booking, a chat widget, an order form. Facebook and Instagram ads are covered through UTM tags under paid social. HighLevel's attribution guide doesn't cover organic Instagram posts or stories, and the documented entry points don't include an Instagram DM or comment.
Picture the usual high-ticket path. Someone comments on a reel, a setter talks to them for three days, they book a call, and they pay on an invoice a week later. In GoHighLevel's documented attribution, nothing ties that payment back to the reel.
You can build part of it yourself. The comment trigger can be scoped to one specific post, so a workflow per post can tag the people who came from it. HighLevel doesn't document a built-in report that turns those tags into revenue per post, so that report is yours to build and keep up.
Story replies aren't a documented trigger
GoHighLevel's Instagram comment trigger covers posts. A keyword trigger for story replies is an open request on HighLevel's ideas board, posted in October 2024 with 158 votes and no staff reply when we checked in October 2026. Voice notes in Instagram DMs have their own request on the ideas board, with 97 votes. For a team whose stories drive the DMs, that's the first thing to test before you commit.
Setter reporting is built around response times
HighLevel documents an SLA dashboard with average response time per user, and dashboard widgets for unread and unassigned conversations by assignee. Its SLA setup guide lists email, SMS, Facebook, WhatsApp and TikTok and doesn't mention Instagram, so check whether Instagram DMs are covered on your account.
Response times tell you whether setters are answering. They don't tell you which setter's conversations turn into money. Opportunity reports grouped by assignee get closer, as long as every deal is logged with a value and an owner.
Can you use Ellipsend and GoHighLevel together?
Yes, and for many setter teams that's the setup that makes the most sense. Setters work the DMs in Ellipsend. GoHighLevel stays the system for calendars, calls, payments, email and SMS.
The link between them is a tracking tag, and a GoHighLevel workflow you set up carries it. When a setter or an automation sends a booking link as a button, Ellipsend adds a tag that identifies the lead and the post they came from. In GoHighLevel, you build a workflow that saves that tag on the opportunity when the lead books, and sends the booking to Ellipsend. When the opportunity is marked won, the same workflow sends the won deal back to Ellipsend with the saved tag, and the sale is credited to the post, story or ad that started it. Saving the tag at booking is what lets a sale that closes days later on a call still find its post.
Send booking links as buttons so they carry the tag. A link pasted as plain text carries no tag.
One thing to settle first. Pick one tool to run your Instagram DM automations. Across the accounts we work with, two DM tools connected to the same Facebook Page tend to get in each other's way. When no default routing app is set, both tools receive every message and both can reply. When the other tool is the default, an automation can stall partway through a conversation. Another DM tool on the same Page is the cause we see most in support when an automation stops sending. Set the tool that runs your DM automations as the default routing app in your Page settings, and don't run the same comment trigger in both.
Which should you pick?
| Your situation | Pick |
|---|---|
| Most of your sales run through email, SMS and booked calls, and Instagram is a side channel | GoHighLevel |
| You're an agency running separate setups for many clients | GoHighLevel |
| Most sales start in Instagram or Facebook DMs and a setter team works them | Ellipsend |
| You need to know which posts, stories and ads make money, not just which get views | Ellipsend |
| You already run GoHighLevel for calls and payments and have setters in the DMs | Both, connected |
The question I'd ask is where the conversation that makes the money happens. If it happens in the DMs, the inbox and the reporting should be built around the DMs.
How Ellipsend works for setter teams
Ellipsend is a DM sales platform for human setter teams. Keyword automations start conversations on comments, story replies, DMs and ads, then your setters take over in one inbox for Instagram and Facebook. With a GoHighLevel workflow you set up, the booking and the won deal go back to Ellipsend, so the sale lands on the lead.
Reports then show revenue next to every post, story and ad, and dollars per DM for every setter. Speed to lead, the time between a lead replying to your automation and a setter sending their first message, and follow-ups come from the same conversations. You can see which content sells and which setters close, without a spreadsheet.

Can GoHighLevel manage Instagram DMs?
Yes. GoHighLevel shows Instagram DMs in its Conversations inbox alongside email, SMS, WhatsApp and Facebook messages, once an Instagram business or creator account is connected through a Facebook Page. Conversations can be assigned to team members and answered from the mobile app.
Does GoHighLevel track which Instagram post made a sale?
GoHighLevel doesn't document revenue attribution to organic Instagram posts or stories. Its attribution records a contact's source when they submit a form, book a calendar or complete an order form, and covers paid Facebook and Instagram ads through UTM tags. You can tag leads per post with a workflow, but HighLevel doesn't document a built-in revenue-per-post report.
Does GoHighLevel have story reply automations?
GoHighLevel's documented Instagram comment trigger covers posts. A story-reply keyword trigger has been an open feature request on HighLevel's ideas board since October 2024, with no staff reply when we checked in October 2026. Ellipsend has a story-reply keyword trigger.
Can I use Ellipsend with GoHighLevel?
Yes. Setters work Instagram and Facebook DMs in Ellipsend, and GoHighLevel handles calendars, calls and payments. Booking links sent as buttons carry a tracking tag. You set up a GoHighLevel workflow that saves the tag on the opportunity at booking and sends the booking and the won deal back to Ellipsend, where the sale is credited to the post the lead came from.
How much does GoHighLevel cost?
As of October 2026, GoHighLevel lists Starter at $97 a month, Unlimited at $297 a month and Agency Pro at $497 a month, with a 14-day free trial. Email, SMS, phone and premium AI are charged by usage on top of the subscription.
Is GoHighLevel or Ellipsend better for a DM setter team?
For a DM setter team, the team that works Instagram and Facebook DMs to qualify leads and book calls, Ellipsend is built for the inbox, the setter pipeline and revenue by post. GoHighLevel is the stronger all-in-one platform for email, SMS, calendars and payments. Teams that need both can connect them, with Ellipsend for the DMs and GoHighLevel for calls and payments.
